Our 6th Illusiversary

Saturday, June 1st, we will be celebrating our 6th Illusive Anniversary (and 33rd year of an incarnation of Brian’s Books!)

We will have a special sale, give-aways and signings with writer Mark Masterson and artist Rafael Navarro.

Yes, you can meet my publishing partner, the writer and creator of Dorothy, Mark Masterson. Mark will be doing a portfolio review, from 2pm on, of artists interested in being a part of the new creations of Dorothy- an acclaimed series that has been on hiatus for a while.

In the evening, meet my dear friend and Illusive Logo artist, Rafael Navarro, who will be sketching and telling great stories about everyone he knows.

For over twenty years, Rafael Navarro has been working in the diverse fields of animation, illustration, and comic books. It has earned him a Daytime Emmy as well as two other Emmy nominations for outstanding special class in an animated program. He is also a recipient of the Xeric Foundation Award.

Some of his projects are Gumby’s Gang starring Pokey, to Bela Lugosi’s Tales from The Grave as well as the Xeric Award winning cult classic Sonambulo, his lucha libre film noir creation.

He has worked for: Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Warner Bros, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Mattel/Technicolor, Comedy Central, and Lego just to name a few.

Show credits included: The Batman, Scooby Doo, Spectacular Spiderman, Rugrats, Mucha Lucha, Lego’s Hero Factory, Tutenstein, Barbie, Xiaolin Showdown and many more.

 

Jimmie Robinson on the 29th

On Wednesday, May 29th, meet comic creator Jimmie Robinson. He’ll be signing and doing sketches from 11a-1p and then again from 6p-9p.

Robinson’s first work was eight issues of Cyberzone in 1994, which he self-published. In 1996, Image Comics published the spin-off four-issue limited series Amanda & Gunn.

In 2006 he took on the superhero genre by creating the super villain Bomb Queen . The series was successful to receive six sequels.

In 2009, he released his first children’s book, T. Runt!, written by Derek McCulloch. He now creates Five Weapons, published by Image Comics.

Trek For Autism

 bedjjgbcMeet original Star Trek actors, Arlene Martel and Sean Kenney for a special screening along with book signing, photo ops and Q&A. Both Arlene and Sean are experience actors coming from Hollywood to meet and greet Star Trek fans and at the same time help raise money for AchieveKids organization. AchieveKids provides services to students aged 5 to 22 whom have complex and often severe developmental, emotional and behavior problems. AchieveKids’ Executive Director, Dr. Michael Gennette, will be also giving a talk on “Autism Today”.

There will be an active Q&A session following two special screenings for each actor and everything from “What was it like to work with Captain Kirk or Spock in the original series? to how has Autism personally affected you or your families? will be asked. They’ll be chances for book signings and photo ops with the actors.

Yes, you can dress up in costume! Bluelight Cinemas will have a prize for the best costume at the event voted by its owner and CEO!

Kids are welcome!

They’ll have a special PG screening running concurrently during the sessions, and they also get to meet the actors and enjoy in the fun! Best of all, Kids under 17 are FREE,which includes special PG screening and meeting with actors for signings and photo-ops. Kids 12 and under are FREE!

Food:

There will be all your favorite movie snacks available for purchase and a portion of money purchased for those snacks will be donated to AchieveKids!
Illusive Shopping:
Illusive will have Rob the Sunday Guy on hand selling Star Trek shirts and toys. A portion of our sales proceeds will also go to AchieveKids!

Pien & Pham Signing 6-8p

Lark Pien and Thein Pham will both be signing their books on March 27th from 6-8p.

Thien, who was featured in San Francisco’s Cartoon Art Museum in January, has worked on Level-Up (written by Gene Yang, drawn by Thien Pham) and SUMO.

Lark’s books include: Mr. Elephanter, and Nursery Rhyme Comics: 50 Timeless Rhymes from 50 Celebrated Cartoonists.
They will both be doing sketches for fans that buy their books, and Lark will be taking Commissions, starting at $120.

Clancy Brown & William Katt

Thursday, Feb 28th from 6-9p meet Actors William Katt (The Greatest American Hero), Clancy Brown (Highlander, The Shawshank Redemption, Starship Troopers, Lego Batman 2), and Chase Williamson (John Dies at the End)! They will be joined by Sparks creator Christopher Folino and artist Tyler Endicott in signing and celebrating the release of the Sparks graphic novel. Our own Derek McCaw, editor of the original Sparks series, will be lurking about, too.

The Sparks graphic novel will be officially released via Amazon on Friday, March 1st, but you can get it exclusively at Illusive Comics & Games, on Thursday the 28th!

The first 50 fans at Illusive Comics & Games on the 28th will get a copy of the original first issue signed by Katt. In addition, Folino will be giving away tickets to Friday night’s World premiere of the movie adaption at Cinequest in the California theater.

We will pre-sell 50 tickets, in store. More tickets will be available the day of the event.

Fans can pay $20 to get a copy of Sparks or 1 memorabilia item signed or have 1 photo taken with an actor. Max of 2 items per person ( for a total $40).
